Porsche Carrera GT 9/2003-4/2006

The initial production plan was 1500 supercars, but a total of 1270 cars were produced in 2 years and 7 months (so approximately 2 cars a day).

There are interesting differencies between the prototype and production model tech specs:
  prototype production model
Engine 5.5L V10 5.7L V10
Power 550 hp 612 hp
Weight 1250 kg 1380 kg
Weight-to-power ratio 2.27 kg/hp 2.25 kg/hp
The reason for the differencies is probably that they couldn't produce car that light (1250 kg), so they had to raise the power, to get the same weight-to-power ratio.

Carrera GT was built on the know-how of Le Mans cars. It was rumoured that the Carrera GT was built because Porsche retired from car racing after 1998 season and they had the 1999 racing car already half-way engineered, so they turned this know-how into a street-legal Le Mans car.
