Porsche 911 997 GT3 RS 3.8 Updated 04.04.2010
On sale: January 2010

Engine: 3.8 B6 normally aspirated, 450hp/331kW (435hp/320kW on a normal GT3 3.8), 430 Nm (same as on GT3)
Acceleration: 4.0 sec. 0-100 km/h (4.1 sec. on a GT3)
Top speed: 310 km/h (312 km/h on a GT3 because of the narrower body and less downforce)
Weight: 1370 kg (1395 kg on GT3)
Wheels & tyres: front 9x19" 245/35R19 (8.5x19" 235/35R19 on a GT3), rear 12x19" 325/30R19 (12x19" 305/30R19)

The gearbox is optimized for better acceleration - gears from 1 to 5 are 13% shorter than in normal GT3.

A lithium-ion battery will be on the options list. It reduces car weight by more than 10 kg, but costs A LOT.

Three exterior colors are available - white (yes!), dark blue metallic and dark gray metallic. We are surprised that Porsche offers metallic colors for its best product. Metallic colors are for luxury cars (lets keep them for the 4-door "Porsches"). White has always been the color of racing cars and the GT3 RS in white looks just exactly how it should look - just perfect!

In addition to exterior color, you have to choose between red and gold "contrast color". You know what we think about metallic colors on racing cars and the red contrast on white is the correct Porsche "RS" combination anyway.

This is the one and only "right" color combination for RS

The exhaust is of extra light titanium. The pipes are 5mm larger in diameter compared to normal GT3.

RS comes with wider track not only at the rear (44mm), but first time also on the front axle (26mm compared to normal GT3).

Widened wheel arches in front

911 997 GT3 3.8 & GT3 RS 3.8

What we think: With GT3 "What we think" = "What we know": GT3 and GT3 RS are the best Porsches for your money. The regular GT3 is cheaper, but the RS holds its price better. According to our calculations, GT3 loses its value in 5 years and 30.000 km ~47% and the RS only ~36%. Despite the RS costing more, in terms of euros you lose approximately the same amount over the time (so, yes you can pay that extra 20.000 EUR, you will not lose more than with regular GT3). The regular GT3 holds its price better than the 911 Carrera or Turbo or GT2, while they also hold their prices very well. We don't have new statistics, but in 2003 a study by Schwacke Automobile Index showed that the 911 was the sportscar with most stable value in the world!
