Porsche 911 997 GT3 3.8
Updated 08.07.2009 On sale: from May 2009 ![]() Engine: 3.8 B6 normally aspirated, 435hp/320kW, 430 Nm Acceleration: 4.1 sec. 0-100 km/h Top speed: 312 km/h Weight: 1395 kg Wheels & tyres: front 8.5x19" 235/35R19, rear 12x19" 305/30R19 Media calls this a "facelift 997 GT3", but we call it a "997 GT3 3.8". We hate facelifts as the core values of cars should be in technical compartment, not in the exchange of bumpers or lamps. Any facelifts in special cars should be avoided in order not to depreciate the value of the cars produced before the facelift. Body changes should come with new models not within a production life of a model. All modifications in technical side are of course highly welcomed whenever they come. Compared to the original 997 GT3 3.6 the 3.8 is not a big step forward, but definetely not a step backwards. Over the 3.6 model the power increased 20 hp's, 0-100 km/h is done in 0.1 sec. quicker and top speed is 2 km/h more. So a very small step forward. ![]() ![]() What would you do if you see a scene like this? Together with the keys aqua ammonia should be provided in order to prevent fainting. ![]() ![]() "3.8" script reminding of the very rare (and very expensive) 911 964 Carrera RS 3.8. 964 Carrera RS was the GT3 of its days. ![]() Central locking wheels for street cars were first introduced in Carrera GT and now in a 911 GT3 3.8. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Suede covered steering wheel and gear lever should be used with racing gloves in order to preserve the grip qualities. A standard leather steering wheel is availabl as a non-cost option. ![]() Clubsport package - rollcage, 6-point belts, fire extinquisher and battery main switch - are a free of charge option, but only after you buy the bucket seats (there are 2 types of them available). With GT3 you probably want to have bucket seats anyway. ![]() The button for the optional front axle lifting system. You don't want to make your GT3 heavier and more complicated, right? ![]() What we think: Probably the best Porsche you can buy if only the 2-seat configuration will not be a problem (in this case a 911 Turbo with manual gearbox is your best option). Definetely the most-bang-for-your-buck-Porsche ever. Photos (c) Porsche AG |
