The event As most of the participants had arrived in Pärnu already a day or two before the event, we had an optional gathering at 19 o'clock on Friday, August 5. The cars were taped with sponsor decals to save time on Saturday morning and this way to have more track time. ![]() ![]() ![]() Somebody had parked his diesel Volkswagen between the Porsches... "Mitä hel..., Juha!" ;-) Saturday, August 6. Good morning! Let's have some fun today! ![]() Gran Turismo Events is a Swedish company specializing in making high class sportscar events for high class people... Big brother is generous and is helping younger brother to have better prizes for winners to make the events more serious. This year they presented a Gran Turismo Polonia 2012 participation to one of the podium places. Thank you, Peter and Jens! ![]() Last year's winner Roul-the-Viper-man, and his company are the sponsors this year. So if you need to fix something, you will find the materials and tools from Baltic Bolt. Thank you, Roul for helping us! ![]() ![]() ![]() Intercooler of Lotus Exige S. Cooling air enters via the roof scoop. ![]() Martins is already so happy as he would know what he is going to win in the evening ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Viper GTS is just absolutely stunning. By the way, this car is an European model, which means it is a Chrysler Viper and not a Dodge Viper. Anyway, let's not talk about the brands like Dodge or Chrysler at Sportauto.ee, please! ![]() 60 participating cars is the all-time maximum ![]() Dreaming of an American dream, boys? There are really only a few dream cars made in the U.S.A. - one is Corvette and the other is Viper. ![]() Porsche brothers ![]() ![]() Guys from Porsche Club Finland with Mr.President in the middle ![]() ![]() ![]() Our filmmaker Taavi Koppel, who has made the fantastic films about our events since 2008 ![]() Dmitri from Porsche Classic Club Russia. He speaks many languages including fluent English and Finnish, so he is the needed bridge between the world and PCCR. Good job, Dima! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This nice car belongs to Andrey, the president of Porsche Classic Club Russia. Just that the letters on the rear lid are placed some centimeters off the right place after the paintjob. ![]() During the last years a white colour has been called "The new black". With Porsche, white has always been one of the best colours and definetely on race track oriented cars as most of the Porsche racing cars are white. ![]() 2008 GT2 + 2008 GT3. Life is good when you are able to see such a view in real life. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() What Heikki probably thinks: "What a beauty. And when they will make a GT3 in the future that is quicker than my 2004 996 GT3, then I might consider buying a new one. Until then, guys at Weissach - you have to work harder!" ![]() As Roul's 2008 ACR Viper now stays permanently in Nürburg, he took his 1997 supercharged weapon to defend the cup. ![]() It is getting serious now... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Going to AudruRing with a parade through Pärnu - M6, Viper GTS, 997 S mk2 Cabrio, Ferrari 360, 997 GT3 3.6... ![]() ![]() ![]() The citizens that were awake early in Saturday morning, were able to see all the participants of the best Estonian specialty car event. That sure was a sight! ![]() ![]() Arriving at AudruRing ![]() ![]() Installation of time measurement devices, the transponders ![]() ![]() RED. YELLOW (almost). GREEN. GO! ![]() Of course 8-litres is not enough, that's why Roul has installed superchargers in 2 of his 3 Vipers ![]() Original M6 + Kelleners Sport M6 = well over 1000 hp. Original cars have the best looks (at least this is the belief at Sportauto.ee). ![]() ![]() Markku's attitude gives power to everybody. He is no defeatist, he knows how to enjoy life. ![]() With only hand throttling and hand braking (and hand steering when there's time for that), Markku is still relatively quick around the race track - 26 drivers had to admit their legs don't help them to be better than Markku. ![]() ![]() Nice plate is a must for a nice car ![]() Like on Porsche 993 - you wouldn't want to change a single line on this design. And the silver paint is perfect. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In 1985 Porsche released a 944 Turbo, a car that was better than a 911. At that time the company just made the best cars, they didn't think like today that the 911 has to be kept artificially the best. Although we prefer original factory look, the 944 was not produced with bigger wheels than 16". To unleash the potential of a 951 you need at least 17" wheels (18" in this case). ![]() ![]() ![]() Driver meeting ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Rush hour ![]() ![]() ![]() Michelin dealer Kummimees is a real gift to us - the support of Kummimees is enormous ![]() When buying new tyres, please always ask for an offer also from Igor@Kummimees.ee ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The low-speed introductory laps were done ![]() Ready! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Mr.President made a 360-degree spin crossing the start/finish line and continued driving like nothing happened ![]() Nobody understands the phenomenon of Ander driving so fast with a Boxster. His car doesn't have the horsepower of the other cars, so he is relaying on the willpower. And of course on the best driving skills he surely possesses. ![]() ![]() ![]() The traffic is so heavy like there was a man-to-man race going on. Still, for the safety reason, we would never make a man-to-man race with street cars. Everybody is driving only against the clock. During one session 8-10 cars are allowed on the track with spaces between them (at least the spaces were set when the 7-lap session started). ![]() ![]() ![]() Matti, this is very cool, but you have more grip if you keep the tyres on the ground ;-) ![]() ![]() What now? Learning to drive a 911 on a race track takes at least a year. 911's behaviour on the limit is totally different from other cars. It takes time to make your 911 understand who is the boss and who decides where to go. ![]() Lithuanian Porsche brothers in action ![]() Nobody can't beat the combination of Roul's driving skills and unlimited amount of horses inside his viper ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks to Fredrik we had a 997 GT2 on our event again. Last year Eigirdas' red GT2 (Fredrik's ex) and this year the black one. Veikko on the back seems to be also fully enjoying the GT3 he bought from Lennart. Let's not ask about the Finnish car tax he paid on this one! ![]() ![]() CF stands for CarFreaks.net (it's a cool site, check out!) ![]() Roul, the king of the hill. Roul is the best Estonian amateur racer, he is the best on race tracks aswell at the top speed competitions - to be the best at driving straight and driving in corners is quite unique in motorsport world. ![]() Tuut-tuut GT3, make room for the faster cars! ![]() James don't have the horsepower and the gearbox was the wrong one, so he didn't have the luxury to take down the speed in corners. Driving a Porsche on a race track is the greatest fun he knows, especially on Nordschleife. ![]() ![]() It is very likely that without Avo this event would have not happened - or vice versa: it happened because Avo was ready to help with what he does well. His experience includes about 30 Open Track events organized. ![]() ![]() ![]() Bad news - it started raining. It is actually not so bad for Ander as he is using the new Michelin Pilot SUPER Sport tyres that have threadwear of normal tyres (in comparison to Michelin PS Cup, which are used for water skiing when it rains). ![]() The most beautiful of the Elise/Exige model range Lotuses and the fastest of them, too ![]() Because of the rain we had to end the event before the planned time. That is one of the benefits of amateur racing that you don't have to drive in rain. Driving in rain is not fun and we are not focused on things "not fun". Fortunately everyone had had a dry driving session, so the results are fair. The scheduled dinner together with the awards ceremony was at 9 pm. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The cups were made in the shape of the AudruRing as this was the last year when AudruRing had a shape like this. Hopefully in 1-2 years we have a New AudruRing. ![]() Gift from Maserati Riga to a winner ![]() ![]() Best Racing Country Challenge cup ![]() ![]() James with 2-year old daughter Isabel ![]() ![]() Roul is the unbeatable winner second year in a row. The winner took home the award from Kummimees, a set of MIchelin tyres. ![]() Juha V. is back and back on podium. He takes home the award from Gran Turismo Events, a Gran Turismo Polonia 2012 participation. ![]() Hannu is on podium fifth year in a row! He takes home the award from Balti Bolt, an Ampro tool wagon with 135 tools. Since 2009 we have the tradition to find out the Best Racing Country and for that we take 5 best drivers from each country and calculate the average time of these drivers. In 2009 Finns won Estonians averagely by 1.430 seconds (1:01,441 vs. 1:02,871), in 2010 by 0.433 seconds (1:01,522 vs. 1:01,955) and this year by only 0.343 seconds (1:00,976 vs. 1:01,319). To win that cup, Estonians really have to join their forces - to bring some cars back from Nürburg for a start... ;-) ![]() Best Racing Country Challenge cup supposed to change hands every year. Finns had other plans with it - they wanted to keep it, so they take it back to Finland every year. Fastest Finns this year (from right to left): Juha V., Hannu, Heikki, Matti K., Hugo. As this was the 5th year of an event of this kind, it was kind of an anniversary and the participants that had participated during all these years, received a thank-you-letter. Surpisingly there were as much as 9 drivers that had joined the event on 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. They were: Guy (FIN), Hannu (FIN), Heikki (FIN), Hugo (FIN), Juha M. (FIN), Pekka H. (FIN), Rauno (FIN/EST), Tarmo (EST) and Ülari (EST). ![]() ![]() Pekka Heusala is Mr.President of Porsche Club Finland ![]() Our greatest participant and driver, Hannu, had a 59th birthday, so we congratulated him on that. In he early years Hannu was the main force pushing to organize this event again and again. Without his supporting words, the event have had probably died after the second year or so because the enormous amount of time it takes to organize it professionally. Organizing the event has now become a routine and is therefore simpler now, although it takes more time every year as the event grows more professional every year. 300-400 working hours have been spent in making this event (October 2010-August 2011). ![]() In the middle, Martins, the lottery award winner. Martins went home with a set of Michelin tyres from Kummimees. Sunday, August 7 - we made photos of the top 3 drivers and the best country team. The problem was that Finns had to leave to a ferry and Roul hadn't arrived. Luckily Roul had parked his car last evening the way that we could use it for photoshooting. Our photographer Deniss Podnebess put a tripod up and made the photo with Finns and then when Roul arrived, made a photo of Roul and melted these two shots together for the winners photo that we needed. The cars are in wrong order, starting with the slower one not with the faster one, but we will not Photoshop that! ![]() Photo made with Photoshop. From left to right: Hannu 3rd place, Juha V. 2nd place and winner Roul. ![]() Original photo 1 ![]() Original photo 2 ![]() Best Racing Country team FINLAND: Juha V. (993 Turbo), Hannu (996 GT3 CS mk1), Heikki (996 GT3 CS mk2), Matti K. (996 GT3 CS mk2 with Ruf front), Hugo (996 GT3 mk2 Manthey) 2011 event conclusion: 1. The best cars were made in 1997 (Roul's Viper, Juha's 911 Turbo). 2. 996 GT3 is at least as good as 997 GT3 (even better based on the results). 3. Ander is using forces from space (it is even theoretically not possible to drive a Boxster that fast). Guys at Weissach would possibly want to buy back the car to see what Ander has done with it. This year's prizes were as follows:
Video filmed and edited by Taavi Koppel Photos were made by the official photographer of the event, Deniss Podnebess (leave the mouse pointer on the photo for the credits).
