History:
Lancia Delta designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro was released for sale.
it came the European Car of the Year.
the first street-legal 4WD 2-litre turbocharged Delta entered production as "Delta HF 4WD". "HF" was added to Lancia's top models already in the sixties.
widebody "Delta HF integrale 8v" is introduced. Juha Kankkunen wins WRC.
Miki Biasion wins WRC. Lancia gained 10 victories out of 11 rallies.
Delta HF integrale 16v is shown at the Geneva Motor Show. The 16v car is identifiable from its predecessor by the raised centre of the bonnet to accommodate the new 16 valve engine. The torque split was changed to 47/53 front/rear (previously 56/44), making the car quicker on tarmac. The 16v made its successful debut on the Sanremo Rally. 16v rally cars were painted red (8V in white). Miki Biasion wins WRC.
The colour of 16v rally cars is changed to white as it was found to be looking better on photographs and in television.
Juha Kankkunen wins WRC.
The Lancia Delta dominated the World Rally Championship, scoring 46 WRC victories and winning the Constructors Championship a record 6 times in a row from 1987 to 1992, in addition to 4 Drivers' Championship titles.
